DNS won't point

Hi:

My website is "coopercentral.org". On my registrar, I created a new name server called "ns1.coopercentral.org", and pointed it to my IP address "24.169.144.218". If you point your browser to:

http://ns1.coopercentral.org

It will show my site. That is what SHOULD come up if you go to:

http://www.coopercentral.org

But it doesn't. I'm currently running Simple DNS Plus, have all the records there, but it just doesn't resolve. I've waited the 24-72 hours, and still nothing. Is there anything that I'm missing? Thanks for your help!!

Ken Cooper

I don't get it as the WhoIS info has swapped you over.

Maybe it's something on your side?

RE: DNS won't point

Hi:

Apparently, it looks as if it's working now. Could someone point their browser to:

http://coopercentral.org

And see if a page comes up? Thanks a lot for all your help!!

RE: DNS won't point

Make sure that there ISN'T a "www" in the domain. If you still can't resolve it, then that's pretty weird. Right now at my house, I can visit JUST coopercentral.org (without www.), but I'm working on that. Why is that? Anything I can do? Thanks very much for your time, it's very much appreciated!!

RE: DNS won't point

you should have just pointed that record to www.coopercentral.com. ns1.coopercentral.com would be the dns server for your whole domain. The IP address is for your website, not your nameserver, because you dont host your own DNS right?

Because your ISP still has it cached. and, because the www record is a separate DNS record.

RE: DNS won't point

Yes, I'm sorry, I should've stated that. Yes I do host my own DNS. I created 2 name servers on my registrar, ns1.coopercentral.org, and ns2.coopercentral.org. I use Simple DNS Plus for my DNS Server.

Here's my question, I have a Linksys Router. Here's the info:

IP Address: 24.169.144.218

Subnet Mask: 255.255.240.0

Default Gateway: 24.169.144.1

DNS: 24.93.1.120
24.93.1.248
24.93.1.119

DHCP Remaining Time: 21:48:11

My question is, I've been using the IP address the entire time. Do I do anything with those 3 DNS IP addresses? Thanks for your help!!

NO, those IP addresses are provided by your ISP. You need to make sure your DNS port is forwarding to the server your DNS stuff is on. DNS needs to be opened up, on port 53 i believe, and also it needs to be forwarded to the IP address in your local network where the server is.

RE: DNS won't point

Hi:

Well, I don't know. My site used to be co-hosted, but now I'm doing this. Like I said, it works here. I have a tracking page, and 5 different people with different ISP's accessed my site. Is there anything else I can do? Thanks for your help!!

RE: DNS won't point

ok....im a little confused on what your DNS setup is...You say you have a linksys router....Is the DNS port opened up and passed to your DNS server? If you just point it to that IP address, and dont port forward it to the server address where your DNS stuff is, its not gonna work.

RE: DNS won't point

Sorry, I don't get it either, as I'm a newbie to this stuff. One question. Do I do ANYTHING with those DNS addresses? If not, then I guess it's just the IP address that I use. But I use that IP address for my web server, and DNS servers:

ns1.coopercentral.org
ns2.coopercentral.org

Should I substitute my IP address with the DNS addresses for the name servers? Thanks!!
