Dynamic Ips
I am new to servers in general. I have apache running and by typing in my ip with http:// in front I am able to reach my files on other computers, but when I logg off of the internet and log back on, the ip is diffrent, is it possible to keep it the same so users will not have to ask for the ip each time I log on? Also if I register a domain name, what information will I have to give the provider?

RE: Dynamic Ips
Your IP is being assigned dynamically by your ISP each time you connect to the internet. There are two ways to fix this:
1. Talk to your ISP and get a 'static IP address' - depending on your ISP you'll probably have to pay for this; 2. Register a domain, and get some kind of dynamic DNS service along with it (for example, go to www.dyndns.org). |
