Explorer Crash when Viewing File Type Associations
The post isn't about *server* administration, but is about one of the machines I admin at work.
The box is Windows XP Pro, SP1. The error occurs under a non-privilaged domain user account, not under the Administrator account. Explorer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types The system searches for the registered file types and displays the list... but then crashes almost immediately after. The error message is "Windows Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close." The error report details: Application: explorer.exe App Version: 6.0.2800.1106 Module Name: mapi32.dll Module Vers: 5.5.1960.0 Offset: 000579.4 Right now it's not a major inconvenince, but a little concern playing out in the back of my head. I'm just hoping its not part of a bigger problem that'll come back to bite me in the future. Any ideas? -Tim |

RE: Explorer Crash when Viewing File Type Associations
What happens when you do it on another computer in a non priveledged scenario? Can you replicate the problem on any other computer? If so, ya might wanna start looking at the domain security policy.

RE: Explorer Crash when Viewing File Type Associations
IE arrghh, mine wont follow links now. Perhaps you should check about SP2, not sure if it is what you need but it might help. Another thing try repairing the install from control panel.
