Question I have my PC at home with static IP,I want to make it as my server

Hello admins!!

first of all its nice to see the new look of codewalkers,i appreciate it.. "the best" but some of my friends dont like what happend, cause their account were change/erased also.
well anyway, this is still part of Information Technology-which is for the better and convinience..

--my question is-"How can i make my PC at home a Server? and add some security to it?" im a junior Programmer(PHP).

As a PHP progs. i used windows for my project and when i run it i used "http://localhost/NameOfProject/" if i have now my internet connection and got a static IP and run my progs thru other PC using internet would this be "http://MyIP/NameOfProject"? is this correct? thanx

first look at whatsmyip.org
(dunno if you did that already)
now make sure your firewall/router isnt blocking
then you can just connect using your ip addres

if you have a static IP you should be able to just access it from the IP address in a URL bar in your favourite browser. If you want to use a domain or a subdomain (usually free) to point to the static (or even dynamic IP) then I would recommend that you use DynDns. I use them to access my home computers on a dynamic IP address, it is quite easy to setup.

Oh and if your friends are having problems with their account then I suggest "Resetting your password" as I found that I could not login to my account unless I reset the password first (even though my password was correct). Failing that just contact an administrator.

You will likely need to enable port forwarding if you have a router, i cant say exactly as it varies from router to router. You simply have to set all incoming requests for port 80 to your local IP address, eg 192.168.1.1 (port 80).

First you get ip, then you get software. I use NAWS but most people use Apache . Then you just make it run on startup and configure it.
