RE: IP address question
This is wierd. Didn't know he was using AOL remote and cable local (home). Even cached page shouldn't be doing this.
kbenwa, do you have more than 1 AOL # to call ? if so, try using the other # see what you get. This really doesn't make much sense. What are the first 2 sets of octives in your IP i.e. 172.17. |

RE: IP address question
Humm, 205.188.xxx.xxx is a public IP, but you shouldn't be seeing it when you use a dial up to AOL.
I have no idea why your getting the same IP each time. It does not compute... |

RE: IP address question
Not possible, WHATSOEVER. PPP connections to any major service provider do not allow it. Your ip will not work if you switch services with the same address. You cant be the oddball in a subnet. The rules of routing do not allow it.

RE: IP address question
nawlej is correct. Two providers (networks) cannot have the same IP. It is possiable to have from the same block of IP's,ie 206.67.234.yXX is my static at work, 206.67.234.XyX is my dynamic at home dialup, but they are apart of the same network. If I dialin through another service provider there is no possiable way to recieve a IP from that 'block' of IP's.
kbenwa, if you are clearing your cache and it is still not working, try downloading spybot from www.downloads.com , make sure you do the updates before you scan. Its possiable adware could have hijacked your wsock file, which would make even ipconfig report incorrectly. |

RE: IP address question
I couldnt tell ya what was going on, yesterday. Everytime i tried checking IP address it came up with the same one as 2 days ago, even after clearing cache. Now this morning i tried and got a completely different one. Something sounds screwy to me.

RE: IP address question
I believe if you log onto AOL when connected from home, it will create a VPN link and give you a public IP address. Presumably, this will be "your" IP address on AOL, so it will be the same if you dialup from any arbitrary endpoint TO AOL. When you activate AOL on across your broadband connection from home, the AOL VPN address supersedes the "real" address of your broadband provider.
Beware that this VPN/tunneling also bypasses your local HW firewall, even if you are behind a corporate firewall. This is very bad. I could be wrong . . . |
