JAVA on FreeBSD
Hi all:
Can someone please tell me how hard it would be to install JAVA JDK on a FreeBSD sytem? what would that all involve? thanks! |

just go to java.com and download the package appropriate for your build. Once you install it, in your /etc/profile file (I think its that in BSD too) and set a JAVA_HOME= vsriable to make that available.

The FreeBSD Ports and Packages Collection offers a simple way for users and administrators to install applications. Each port contains any patches necessary to make the original application source code compile and run on FreeBSD. Installing an application is as simple as downloading the port, unpacking it and typing make in the port directory.
Were I runing a FreeBSD machine, the first thing I would do is look at the Java ports available: http://www.freebsd.org/ports/java.html. -Tim |
