localhost problem after installing router

dear friends..

i have this problem..
previously, before i bought this wonderfull NetGear router
(it has a built in WiFi, ADSL modem, 4 port router and a builtin firewall)
my Apache's http://localhost and http://127.0.0.1 works fine..

now, after installing the modem+router,
and also enable the firewall on Win XP's OS
my localhost and 127.0.0.1 doesnt work..
strange enough, i can SUCESSFULLY ping both address..

i have checked out a host file in my windows directory,
it contains only both of the address..

the only way i can display a PHP is by typing http://jassh
but i need this to be fixed or i cant reach my MYSQL database
which rely on host=localhost (i even try to change it to jassh, it simply wont work)

any help is deeply appreciated..

thanks in advanced.

RE: localhost problem after installing router

The addition of the router should have no affect on your localhost capability. localhost and 127.0.0.1 does not even make it to the router, it loops back through the network card in your pc. The only thing I can think of is you have port 80 blocking somewhere in your XP box.

The firewall could be blocking port 80 see if it is.

One further suggestion, disable the XP soft firewall.

Yeah, im pretty sure thats where your block is....You can ping it, because your firewall is allowing ICMP through it, but not http (port 80)

RE: localhost problem after installing router

This may be the resolution you are looking for - it worked for me.

First start MMC

Start->Run->mmc
File->Add/Remove Snap-in
Add->Select 'Internet Information Services'->Add->Close->OK

Expand your local computer (computername) until you reach 'Default Web Site' -> Right-Click->Start

That should do it..

You are welcome
