My Server is grinding to a halt!

I have a basic script which until a few moments ago was working fine, but now, when I click submit on my form, it is really slow and the confirmation page never appears. The data is never inserted into the MySQL table as it should either. The page just hangs.
I have re-booted my server, but the first time I submitted the form it happened again. I have also run the script from another PC's browser.
What couldbe causing this? The MySQL database is on another server. If that went down, would it cause this problem?

RE: My Server is grinding to a halt!

turned out it was the MySQL server. Still was a bit strange though, the server was fine one minute and then the next time I submitted the form it fell over. Quick reboot sorted it thankfully. I have also checked the database and optimzed, hopefully it won't happen again.

Thanks for responding.
