Terminal emulation

I'm trying to interface my web site with an AS/400. The communciation will take place over a dedicated phone line using IBM 5822 modems. Presuming I can get that working on my Linux-based web server, I need a 3270 terminal emulator I can use with PHP (or perl, or c, or Java) so I can automate tasks over the interface. Something from the command line that would take a script would be perfect.

Does anybody know of any such emulator?

(If you have experience with anything like this and want a short term job, send me a private message.)
