Wake Linux Box

Hi,
I currently backup my dedicated server to my home machine at a certain time (usually about 10pm). At the moment it is annoying having to power on the machine and wait for the backup to complete before powering off. Is there anyway i can have the machine power itself up, connect to the net (Using a command that i normally use to connect to the net), wait for the download to complete (Dedicated server sends the backup to my home machine) then power off?

I have heard of wake on lan but i do not have the machine on a lan at the moment or any kind of network, unless you can class a Usb Dsl Modem as one ;)

Has anyone come across a solution to something like this?

Andrew

RE: Wake Linux Box

I guess this might be a silly questions, but why don't you just leave your machine powered on and schedule a cron job?

RE: Wake Linux Box

Damn, i didnt leave my machine on, im currently on holiday with my laptop (In true geek style on a laptop instead of being outside). If i had left the machine on i could of connected into it and setup that cron, oh well got to wait 3 weeks now to do the cron.
