RE: web hosting mirroring

The best way to backup mysql is to make a tarball of /var/mysql/* this'll grab everything. in the event of a failure you can untar it and just stomp on the existing.

Mirroring is usally two drives that are the same is this what you want or do you just want a copy of your website?

RE: web hosting mirroring

ok, I have a normal web hosting, it has an ftp section and also a bunch of mysql db's.

I wish to make a mirror of this that is 100% or near as possible to working locally on the stand alone machine

The main reason is backups but I have other reasons too.

so I do NOT have access to the server, I do have SSH but only in my area, I DO have ftp access.

so what I was thinking is there should be programs out there to mirror the ftp side of things, keep that sync'd, need suggestions of good ones.

and then the best way to approch the mysql.
I am pretty sure I can run a cron on my hosting server but my access is limited as one would expect.

Thanks
