Where to start

i am wondering if anyone can help me with a question that i have about starting a web sever
i need a lot of storage space and it is not logical for me to pay a web hosting company for space with the amount that i need so i just want to use my home computer as a web server but what i am confused about is if i have to get this kind of service from my provider.

RE: Where to start

Great question. Can be answered a million ways. First you need a server. And a connection to the internet with a static IP. Also Sharing MP3's might be a copyright violation

RE: Where to start

Make sure that if you do start up a server that the IP is static. Try nusphere.com to get all you will need as in php, mysql, apache, etc.
Watch out for the MP3's though. there are a lot of people who are getting sued for it now!

RE: Where to start

dont start with nusphere. AFAIK, they sell a pre-packaged apache+php+mysql+?? bundle, that canot possibly outperform a finely tuned software..

also, i think they only sell it for win platform, and that is a joke to host your site on a m$ product..

Good answer...Just giving a quick solution for the porblem. Although nushpere may not outperform a finely tuned software they do have free downloadable packages that are easy to use in a Win. sys.
