RE: A simple suggestion

zombie...I have made most things happen. Problems..

1. If I put the search at the header, nobody will ever know it is there.

2. where should I put the post reply button? I don't think it can go where you suggested, because that is where the next page links go when there are more pages.

RE: A simple suggestion

1) the search feature at the top needs to be adaptive.

when user is in the code section, the default selected search section should be "code". when he is in tutorials, default selected should be "tutorials".

when he is in the forum index, default should be to search all forums, but when he is in a specific forum (or in a thread), default should be to search "this forum".

and untill users learn that the search is up there, you can post a small notice up there where the text about rules is.. (but this should not be there forever)

2) yeah, didn't think of that..

well, i always thought that those "next/prev page" links are not so good.

better is something like google does it, with Page 1, 2, 3 where numbers would be links, and the current page would be in different color/bolded.

so, that header might look like this:

A SIMPLE SUGGESTION
Posts 20-39 of 45, Page << 1 2 3 >>

CAPS means bigger font, and it needs to be even bigger than it is now (just a little more). << and >> are next/prev page links..

thread title should not be centered, and when there is only one page, the pages section under the title is not needed, so it might just be:

THREAD TITLE
14 posts

then, you can put the [Post Reply] button in the right (smaller) column...

(and maybe put the [New Topic] button where the [Post Reply] is now?)

3) the current tab (section) color might be better with dark red background and white font?

yes you can, but that means that you should listen to me more often..

btw, while we are at this, here is another suggestion..

the date/time of the post can go to the "status line", below the post text, together with the [quote] and [edit] buttons.

or the [edit] button can go to the right of the post title, but it needs to be visible only when the user can actually edit the post (when it is his post, and for us admins)

the [pm] [aim] and other buttons that are now below the post text can go in the left column, where the info about the user is..

the idea behind this is simple. all the info (and actions) that are constant for the user should go in the left column. all the info/actions about this specific post should go to the right column..

RE: A simple suggestion

hey matt i really like the last layout that you made. i think its very straight forward and effective. one thing i don't quite see the need for and that is 'why does the height of those two rows have to be so much?' and if they are that size why not center the components vertically.

other than that i think you did a nice job.

cipher...I don't think I understand your last comment.

zombie...I've done all your stuff except for the navigation change. I don't feel like changing the navigation..

Anyway, I don't like the way the PM, AIM, etc links look. Any ideas?

Matt,

I'd also like to see 1|2|3|4.. navigation (specially in the threads view) instead of next/previous. It is really hard to navigate when it reaches 3 pages.

RE: A simple suggestion

i just wanted to tell you "if you don't like it, just bring the font size of the title back to the previous value", but now i see that others might like it too, so i am asking you again: can you at least test it for a couple of days, just to see if ppl like it better? ;)

2) about PM, AIM, etc, for now, put them in one line.. (takes too much space this way)

3) can i ask you to bring the [edit] and [quote] buttons back to the top, with the title, since now there is too much information in the status line, especially for us admins (i forgot about the IP ;)).

btw, i don't think it needs to say "posted". it is probably obvious that it is the timestamp of the message.. ;)

I like your first suggestion anyway.

2. I don't think you can place all 4 icons in one line horizontonly. Have to place them vertically like now.

3. Yes. That's right. [edit][quote] icons should go in title row of each post. I didn't think about the space in status line though i suggested to bring them up back. (coz i won't see admin info. there hehe)

RE: A simple suggestion

Changes made (except for navigation)...I am working on navigation.

As for the thread title, I had already bumped it from 14 to 18 point. Does it need to go more?

RE: A simple suggestion

Navigation changes made...what do you think? If you like it, I will expand it to forum view as well. Right now it is just on for thread view.

I will also remove the upper most and lower most post buttons on your approval.

The navigation changes are good apart from there are two post reply buttons at the bottom and at the top instead of just one.

RE: A simple suggestion

hey Matt since the jump to menu takes you to the forum when you click it from the drop-down list (which i like since it is half a second faster than clicking the go button) then i think the go button should be removed.

RE: A simple suggestion

I just posted to say get rid of the Go button but i realise that if i am viewing a topic like this one with all the replies and i wanted to go back to the home page for Support and Suggestions it doesn't work, actually support and suggestions is already displayed and so i have no choice but to click go.

RE: A simple suggestion

OK..navigation changes have been made in the thread and forum level. Duplicate post buttons are gone.

Does it meet Zombie approval?
