A simple suggestion

I think that there should be a drop down list at the bottom of the page (or somewhere on the page). so that when people want to switch from one forum to another quickly it can be easily done. For example you might be viewing a post in 'programming theory' but then you want to jump to 'General Chat', normally to do that you would have to go to the index then click the link but i think a drop-down list with all the forums can make that much easier.

Well done Matt, it makes using the forum a whole lot easier now, and Nazly I won't have to do that favourites thing again (i have over 100 links there already).

Errr, not to complain or anything, because after all, I dont like to put a damper on a good thing, but is there any way you can cram that into one of the other boxes? When I reply to a thread, the reply box now ends up "below the fold". Just a thought. Not critical.

Yes, I need to plan a re-org of the entire forum header up there....

RE: A simple suggestion

thats right the entire top needs to be redesigned because certain things are just not needed. For example Profile and logout, those two things stay in the left hand navigation permanently so why have it there again.

Another thing is the topic. It is under the navigation "Index >> SupportandSuggestions;" and the text is small (no emphasis on the topic). Also i think the message centre stuff should not be there, it should be alongside MyTreads | Recent Posts ...

That is just the way that I see it.

RE: A simple suggestion

I is certainly more organized but why is the post reply button where it is. it gives the feeling that posting a reply is the main thing. ok right there are 4 rows at the top there i think that 3 of them are perfect the way they are. The one i don't like the second row. My idea is that the drop-down links should be the the extreme right, the topic should be the the extreme left and the post reply button should be at the middle. Why? So that when you are posting a reply an empty space would not be left at the top and so that that second row would be smaller in terms of height.

RE: A simple suggestion

1) this_forum search should be removed from there, and merged with the search at the top..

2) "codewalkers php forums" should be removed, but the [Forums] button in the "tabs bar" above should be in a different color ("selected") when the user is in the forums..

3) "index" link can go in the same box as "my threads", "recent posts", etc.. only before all of that links..

4) "post reply" button must be on the right..

then, forums combo box can go to the left (btw, that combo should work with JS to jump on select.. the Go button should still be there for those without JS)

5) thread title should go to the box with the text "Showing posts 1-13, Total Posts.."

thread title should be in bigger font, in the left column (around 80% width), and that text "Showing posts.. pages.." should be in smaller font, under the thread title (in the same table cell). in the right column should be the [Post Reply] button.

so, here it goes again, in proper order, top to bottom:

1) add the "search this forum" option to the search in the header..

2) make the tab button change color when the user is one of the areas of the codewalkers..

3) first row should be dark red, with small white letters, containing links "Index | My Threads | Recent Post | Unanswered Posts | Unresolved Posts".

4) then the "rules" row..

5) then the forum combo row (with JS jump)

6) then the dark red background, white letters row with thread title in big letters, posts and pages numbers in small leters below the thread title, and the [post reply] button in the right column..

hope that helps.. ;)

RE: A simple suggestion

i think that the index should go as one of the items in the dropdown list and there should just be jump to next to the box.

I agree that the post reply button should go to the right (consistent with the bottom).

RE: A simple suggestion

i'm sorry, but that "index:[drop box]" just made this forum REALLY confusing to navigate. i get it, but i hate it.

ps - while we're on suggestions how about preventing duplicate posts from being submitted. (that should include duplicate posts within different threads).
