E-mail notification, again
Matt, I know there have been threads about e-mail notification in the past, but I'm not sure how the issue was resolved, so I'm asking:
When I get e-mail notification for forum posts, I get notified even of my own posts, which I don't find helpful. I suppose, theoretically, it might be of use if my identity gets stolen by a hacker, who madly posts his insane manifestoes in my name on codewalkers.com, then the e-mail notifications just might help alert me and the FBI in time to locate and neutralize the perpetrator. Other than that, I can't think of a reason to be notified of my own posts; but I don't want to turn off e-mail notification, either, because I want to know when replies to my posts are in, so I can respond promptly. I can think of three solutions: 1. You could code the e-mail notifications script to filter out posts by the user being notified. 2. You could include the name of the user who wrote the post which triggered the notification. 3. You could leave everything the way it is, and I could accept it without complaining. |

RE: E-mail notification, again
Hmm...this is news to me. I have not been getting notifications of my own posts. Has anyone else?
I will post a reply to this message to test... |

RE: E-mail notification, again
First an anonymous message to make sure notification works...

RE: E-mail notification, again
Well, I just posted to a topic this morning, and was notified of it as per usual. Sigh.
I have an hypothesis. It's all about case sensitivity. See how, in that table cell to the left, I'm 'SeanGleeson' but when you see my name on any forum index page, in the 'Poster' or 'Most Recent' column, I'm 'seangleeson'? I think that's because when I signed up for a new account, I picked the name SeanGleeson, and then afterwards I logged in as seangleeson. I've been permanently logged in ever since, from a cookie. (I tried to log out once, but it didn't work, I stayed logged in.) So my hypothesis is: your e-mail notification script does filter out the user who posted the triggering message, but it's case-sensitive! Try logging in as 'matt' and see if I'm right. |

RE: E-mail notification, again
That would make sense. I will add some strtolowers later today when I am out from behind this firewall...

RE: E-mail notification, again
It worked! I posted something or other this morning, and was not sent a notification e-mail. Thanks!
(Now I'm going to attempt to log out, so I can sign in as SeanGleeson instead of seangleeson. I think I can do it by deleting the cookie.) |
