Error - You did not enter the CAPTCHA phrase correctly
AAAARRRRGGGGGGG !!!!!! if I see this damned phrase one more time!!!!!!!
"Error - You did not enter the CAPTCHA phrase correctly." Every time this happens I lose my entire post! Just Gone! Without any way to get it back >:-( For a forum about PHP programming this is the one basic thing that could have been done right. |

RE: Error - You did not enter the CAPTCHA phrase correctly
are you not entering it correctly?
you do realize that if you are signed in, there is no captcha...right? |

RE: Error - You did not enter the CAPTCHA phrase correctly
In terms of useability, a user normally anticipates that he/she can click back and edit the existing from. In this case it is blank.
In my similar situation, my cookies were cleared and I entered the wrong username/password when posting. Cheers, |

RE: Error - You did not enter the CAPTCHA phrase correctly
Thank you trippleweb - that is what I meant. When a system is too rigid and doesn't allow for mistakes, people start to feel insecure using it. This is especially true when using a non-standard/non-recognisable system like this forum. I have a paranoia that anything I do slightly wrong is going to break something.
The polite way to handle this would be (in order of preference): A: To display the CAPTCHA error on the same page as the post. OR B: Cache the post and display it again when the page is reloaded OR C: Don't do anything, and let the browser reload the text into the textarea for the post |

RE: Error - You did not enter the CAPTCHA phrase correctly
Ya i think it should not be cleared but that's also the reason why i type my text in notepad and cut and past it when it is ready :p
That way i can always copy it again if something fails :p |

RE: Error - You did not enter the CAPTCHA phrase correctly
Been doing some testing on this and the text is not cleared in Internet Explorer or in Opera. In Firefox the text is cleared.
Why does Firefox clear the text? Seems like a browser problem to me. |

RE: Error - You did not enter the CAPTCHA phrase correctly
Hi Matt,
This may help your debugging: It does clear the text when using IE 6 If you close the browser and re-open it or navigate away from the posting: first, select a topic and submit, the click the "Back" button, you will lose your text, but.. if you are in the same windows session and repeat these steps again, there is no loss of text. |

RE: Error - You did not enter the CAPTCHA phrase correctly
the captcha is only there when you are not logged in, to prevent spam from anonamous users. I only have the problem when I'm at work and it takes me a while to post. at work the "remember me" option doesn't work and at home it does so after a little bit at work I get logged out. I don't know if it is from the work computer losing the cookie, or the cookie timing out at the server.

Actually, the captcha is (or at least was for a brief period of time) there for users with less than a certain number of posts. This was because we were getting spam from certain new user accounts. I'm not sure if they're there now. |

RE: Error - You did not enter the CAPTCHA phrase correctly
I probably missed putting the captcha on the edit form for users with too little posts...correcting now.
