forum sugestion
first a little bug. it seams that when ' is entered into post title, and u go to that thread there is a ' in a browsers title bar. look at:
http://codewalkers.com/forum/index.php?action=displaythread&forum=phpcoding&id=744&realm=default now, for that sugestion. i like that new feature that shows ip from which user posted. i now have 3 thinks to add/modifu. one, i think that it would be more informational to write and/or host name of that ip. two, i don't like where it is placed (under the post), where all other things are "clickable". it is more infomation about user, so it would go better on the left from the post, where all of the info is. third, i think that user's OS (and maybe browser type) is also a good idea about posts. especialy in this kind of site, where solution to user's problem often depends from os he is running. i want to hear what other are thinking about all this, and if matt doesn't have time, i can do it, now that i am admin here ;) |

RE: forum sugestion
well technically this isn't matts forum, it's from electronic penguin. so i don't imagine he'll be modifying it all that much considering he DOES have his own forum which he just hasn't switched over to yet.. if he's even going to.
i dunno. |

RE: forum sugestion
Hmm..I don't have my own forum..at least not that I know of
To address zombie's concerns... 1) the ip (that only admins can see) should stay that way. To do a gethostname on each IP on long threads would be a nightmare... 2) i'll think about it... 3) I agree that there could be some benefit to it, but then I also see that it could be worthless also. A lot of assuming could go one. I don't really think I want to go there, I can just hear the complaints of privacy concerns right now.... As for the backslash bug, I'll fix it up in a little bit.... |

RE: forum sugestion
to notepad:
i know that this EF is not Matt's, but when i so that ip thing, i thougt that matt added some code of his own (i didn't realise that it was because i am admin now ;) to Matt: 1) ok. i didn't realise that it was only of admins... nevermind me than... but i don't understand that about hostnames. if u do a gethostname() once user posts, and write it to db, it shouldn't thake that long... 2) it doesn't matter since it is only for admins... 3) i think it is a standard option for some forums, and i didn't hear anyone complain about privacy. but it doens't matter... (also, that ip thing is on some forums for all users, so that is what misleed me) to kohar: 3) i am not shure. it is often true for advanced users, but beginners often just dl apache+php and start playing... and about confusion: notepad was talking to matt in his post abut "own forum", and not to u. |
