Hacking profiles?
I can't seem to find a simple way to contact an admin around here so I will post this here. I try to send a PM to an admin and it tells my I don't have permission.
Anyway, I think someone might be trying to hack into my profile. I keep getting the following emails (yesterday and today). Please look into this if you can. That is NOT my ip address and I have not been trying to log in over and over. Thanks! --------- email sent to me -------- AFemaleProdigy, Your account on Codewalkers Forums has been locked because someone has tried to log into the account with the wrong password more than 5 times. You will be able to attempt to log in again in another 15 minutes. The person trying to log into your account had the following IP address: 74.53.243.34 Don't forget that the password is case sensitive. Forgotten your password? Use the link below: (url blocked out) All the best, Codewalkers Forums team

According to a quick ipwhois lookup, the IP address belongs to an ISP called ThePlanet.com. I think they should be contacted about this, perhaps they would cut off service for the cracker.
If you use the same password somewhere else, too, change it now. If the attacker does get in they can't use the same password to log in to your other accounts elsewhere. That's about the only benefit I can imagine from cracking a non-administrative forum account, unless the attacker is a 10-year-old who just wants to show off to his friends.

They haven't managed to get in and I did change the password to something more secure. I agree that it is probably some ignorant person trying to be a smart a$$. I wasn't too worried about it personally, but I wanted to make you aware just in case.
Thanks! |

See... that is what I was wondering... if it was just me or if this person was trying to hack several profiles or something. Interesting. You guys might want to consider blocking this person's ip address just to be safe. Just a suggestion.

I'm pretty sure an admin will respond to this, but to me it just looks like someone saw a user online and tried to crack their password, I do not think it is a bot because there would be many attempts to login unless the Vbulletin blocks an ip address after so many attempts.
If they were a serious "hacker" then they would try and get an administrator account like tkarkkainen suggests. |
