Java Coding Contest

Hey everybody,

Recently i was looking around for java contests and could not really see anything, so i came up with the idea that codewalkers could perhaps host a java contest alongside the php one.

I am willing to build a basic plugin-based judging system upon which we can offer the java based judging.. I haven't thought about the finer details, but i have converted the current (Corridors) contest into java and built my own little solution

The idea is that we can also provide the java coders with a basic library with which they can work - They can subclass the basic interface (similar to CorridorBase in the contest) and we simply find and run.

Anyhow, i'd like to know if you guys are interested..

RE: Java Coding Contest

RE: Java Coding Contest

That's because the site has been focussed towards php thus far.. I am willing to help out as much as i can to launch and maintain a java section of the site.. It could work, it could fail - you never know till you try.

Besides, the contests are generally not php specific, so there shouldn't be too much of a problem hosting the same for java - The actual judging can be completely separated since some stuff are super easy to do in java that are very tough in php and vice-versa..

Anyhow, i'd like to give it a shot - i think codewalkers is a great place and it deserves to grow..

RE: Java Coding Contest

Java is a great programming language, but Codewalkers is "A resource for PHP and SQL developers." That doesn't include Java. Keeping the site focused is important, so in my opinion there wouldn't be space for a Java contest on this site.

But why not create a site called Javawalkers? ;)

RE: Java Coding Contest

ok, well.. was just a suggestion.. anyhow - i'm going to figure out how to build a scalable contest infrastructure just for kicks - if anybody is interested, let me know..

I'll also be building solutions for all/most of the coding contests so i can be sure it works nicely

I can't build my own site due to resource restraints. building your own community takes time and resources i don't have.

RE: Java Coding Contest

Ok, to whomever is interested (perhaps this topic should be moved elsewhere) - i have converted my domain to a java contest site.. Not sure how it's going to go.. will have to see..

Take a look at www.dats.co.za.

Before you say anything, yes, I am aware that i have shamelessly ripped the contest from here.. I have another (original) contest idea on the way, but i already had the framework for this one built so i figured it would be a waste not to just post it.

Anyhow. There we go. Enjoy! spread the word!
