Live Help?

Many times I have heard requests for some type of irc or chat system. I think I may have finally come across something that I like . What would you think of using a system like:

http://www.helpcenterlive.com/

I would create a operator id for anyone who wanted to provide help.

RE: Live Help?

Ohh...btw, one of the reasons I like it is that it can autosave transcripts from the chats. That way, we can have the transcripts autoposted to a forum here via a cron job. Then, future google searches and people searching the forums would be able to benefit...

RE: Live Help?

I use live support for my job at work, and believe me... you don't want it...

The forums are an awesome resource, and I have found that anyone worth their salt in that they are trying to *LEARN* php will benefit from having to wait for a thoughtful answer....

This place is great, and honestly I wouln't change a thing... I certainly wouldn't burden myself with chat support... it would be abused...

Sorry if I have overstepped...

-Jeff

RE: Live Help?

we use live support where i work as well, it's not bad. i'd be willing to help out if you do set it up although i can only answer questions within a certain scope..

this type of thing is more for one on one than actual "chat" but, it could really be useful if you had enough people logged in.

RE: Live Help?

If it actually got used enough, I'd be willing to help out too. I think the it may not become very popular though.

i would be willing to help out too if you decided to use it. I have used that system before and it isnt too bad in my opinion, also about posting it to the forum that is a great idea.

RE: Live Help?

I think that could be kind of convenient, assuming it caught on and enough people were helping. Though ya, there is a definate downside, that each person helping has a scope of expertise, and you'd have to keep switching people off, or saying I don't know, or something like that, which could get rather irritating for the user.

RE: Live Help?

if i remember correctly HCL (help center live) can have departments so you can have a php department, client side, etc etc where each operator is assigned to each department if it is within his/her scope of knowledge.

RE: Live Help?

are you going to buy the winapp if you use this or make it totally webbased? I'm not sure how easy it is to monitor if it's not in your tray.

It looks like a cool application for businesses and it's open source.

RE: Live Help?

Yeah...I would buy a winapp license so that everyone could use that...

Still mulling it over. I am leaning towards seeing how it would work out....

RE: Live Help?

Thanks to those that responded already. I have given it a bit of thought over the night and am going to hold off for a little while though. There are still a couple of things I don't like about it....
