More forum centric front page

Since the implementation of the new javascript menu I have thought about what would make this site easier to use and more effective. I used to own www.dreamincode.net in a round about way (one of my employees built it while working for me and I hosted it for a while but when he left the company I let him keep it). It's got a younger crowd than codewalkers and they sometimes get pretty agressive abusive with their "site reviews" which is one of the reasons I let it go. But... if you take a look at their home page it has a custom add on to the Invision power board so that it could pull "latest posts" from outside the forum. It really makes it easier for answering questions.

RE: More forum centric front page

I still haven't learned to like the new menu here. It isn't easy to get to the forums anymore. All of the menus contain a link here but they're all behind a corner so to speak. I had to codemark forum index in order to maintain some kind of comfort.

Besides, the new menu doesn't work with javascript turned off. So much for avoiding those "funny" joke pages that show you 10^n JS alert windows. There has to be another way. Couldn't that kind of menu be built with CSS?

I agree that front page could do with some improvements. It could contain boxes like "Latest news", "Latest forum posts", "Latest reviews" and so on. Preferably it could provide links to every section of the site even the menu (almost) does it.

RE: More forum centric front page

Agreed...Codewalkers needs a major design overhaul. It is on my plate to do (on the plate that I'm currently eating off of, not one of those plates in the cupboard). I am working on some back end coding changes to make the change to a different design easier. Without the changes on the backend, I am very limited in what I can do. Expect big improvements in the next 3-4 months...
