PHP Contest suggestion!

Hello there!
I have a suggestion for the PHP Coding Contest... In fact there are a number of suggestions...

1. Can you make a code submission page on the site, so that us, the "coders" wouldn't have to mail you the code?
2. Can there be a page on the site on which coders can see how many have submitted their code?
3. Can we see working examples of the other codes submitted to the contest?
4. Can these be done in real time? What I mean is that: can we see the above while the contest has not come to an end?... It could be usefull to see the results others have, and try to improve the code we have. It doesn't mean that we can see the actual code the others have designed...

RE: PHP Contest suggestion!

1. In the works
2. Also in the works
3 and 4. On occasion I may post other code besides the winner. In real time though? I don't really like that idea. Then, you get into people resubmitting and resubmitting their code. I'd rather have someone make their code as good as possible the first time, and then send it in. If I posted people code in real time, it would end up being a contest of who could make things prettier. Beyond that, posting someone else's code in real time would pose quite a few security risks. I would need quite some time to code something that would parse through their code and make sure it didn't casue any problems on my server.....So, in short. No. ;)

Thanks for the suggestions though, keep 'em coming!

RE: PHP Contest suggestion!

OK....
Now I see the picture...
Before that, I did not see from your point of view!
Anyway, YOU ARE RIGHT about posting the codes realtime.
But I have another suggestion: Can you build an user area, where users could see their work in a "working state". This suggestion is based on the fact that there are users that can "code" but have no means to try their code on the web. I know I had that problem before I got a job...
This could rise a security problem like the one you said, but I feel that I had to suggest that in behalf of the ones that need it... ;)
I do not think it could be done (even on a long term), but nevertheless...

Best...

RE: PHP Contest suggestion!

Yeah, you're right, there still would be the security issue. What I could do is post something up letting people know where they can get a free host with PHP enabled. Such as the list at:

RE: PHP Contest suggestion!

OK.. I see your point, as I have stated before...
As for the link: GREAT!!!
You could show it on the main page, or on every page in a box... The users have to dig to this forum to find a free PHP hosting listing... That is if you did not do that already...

Anyway, YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB WITH THIS SITE!!! CONGRATS!!!
