There were a little checkbox on the previous system stating that the problem has been solved. So whenever the question is answered we could tick that checkbox, so another people won't bothered to see finished questions.
If the question maker did not satisfy with that answer, he could just reply it and un-tick that checkbox. I think this feature is very necessary in the PHP Help forum or in another Q and A sections.

This was a great feature, but I'm sure it would not necessarily be easy to add to this new forum.
Maybe it can be looked into. |

Now that we're discussing features from the old forum, I'd like to request one.
We used to have that whenever there was 'php_function(' in a message, explode( for example, the function name became a link to php.net/function_name. That allowed quickly reading more about the function. Of course, this happened only for built-in functions of PHP. Any chance of getting that back?

I believe that you can use [ PHPNET ][ /PHPNET ] but it is not as automatic as the old one. Surely there must be some kind of hack to allow the [ php ] [ /php ] tags to do this?

I had a discussion with the boss this afternoon in regards to the open/solved functionality. Our forum software doesnt currently HAVE this functionality, and as Andrew has correctly commented, it is a bit of a beast to modify. We have put it on our list to look at when our current workload can spare the opportunity. That being said, we also talked about the usage of this feature. While it does serve a purpose, it also doesnt encourage additional or better solutions that may not be found until after the original problem was solved, or even by someone at a later date. Leaving the thread open gives anyone the ability to further comment, suggest, or provide new solutions to issues. Anyways, I thought I'd throw out those comments. We're still going to look at it in more detail when the time comes... |

As far as I remember when a thread was marked as resolved, other people could post but it was just a nice little indicator for others who are looking to help people. So they do not waste their time answering threads which are already solved, because some people just stop posting after their problem is solved and do not tell anyone. If when a thread was resolved it was closed that may have the negative effect that you suggest. |

That is perfectly spoken out. I'm not the one who build this community, Matt is. The first reason I come by and stay here is because I love the environment and the cozy place that is not so money oriented. It's purely making a community for a resource of php and sql developers. That is why Matt making the old forum software so we can help people and help each other with convenience. Right now, the new forum software is amazingly great, lots of lots new feature that I like. Example, the title below my name, I can change it to anything I want, everytime I want Anyway, my point is, turning back the old forum software feature is not as easy as we thought so, but if it's do-able, then it worth to try. The features was there because of some reason. |

It's probably one of those things that could be added in later when all the bigger stuff is sorted out, one of those nice to have but not 100% needed. I guess we will have to see what turns out..... Although you can change your title, dont you miss the witty pranks Matt used to play? Who was it that was made to have 0 posts when they hit 1000? Oh and the Notepad and Zombie search images were great... But thats a discussion for another thread |
