Suggestion by email......

So, here's the wonderful suggestion I got in my email today.

Quote:
Hi Matt,

I think you could work on making your main page look a
bit better. I figure you are using some sort of a
content management engine ??. But the interface looks
tacky. Don't mind, but its better to tell the truth
!!.

Check out http://www.mysql.com very pleasing to the
eye indeed.

Regards,
Manoo

Well, I guess you could say I use a content management system. I coded it myself, but it does indeed manage my content.

So, what do YOU think? Is the interface "tacky"? I know I need to come up with some more themes, but most people don't even use themes. They just use the default. So, what do you think about the default theme of this site? Post your comments here.....

I think it looks O.K. But I guess everyone has their own opinion.

RE: Suggestion by email......

I think it's true that the site is not a monument to aesthetics. However, I agree with other posters that the content is more important. The site, while not beautiful, is pretty useable, which is also (IMO) more important than beauty. If you ever do decide to redesign, please skip the DHTML and fancy menus--links are far more useable when they are plain on the page than when hidden in menus. Likewise, there should be no need for multiple themes. A site should be nice enough to look at, readable, and useable (I think this one already meets these criteria for the audience). If a designer can't create a single look that meets all three, he/she should keep trying until it is accomplished.

I'm confused, were you saying that if I redesign to get rid of my current fancy menus? Or just if I redesign to stay away from fancy menus? If the former, I'm confused beacause I thought my menus were pretty plain to begin with
