Thread resolution suggestion

I thought it might be a better system if only the original poster(or moderator) could mark the thread as resolved. Then maybe add a red light, green light column in the post list to indicate whether a post is resolved or not. That way if a satisfactory answer has been given the person who posted the question originally, they can give the thread a "green light" or whatever indication.

RE: Thread resolution suggestion

Has there been a problem with people marking threads resolved when they aren't? I agree that there should be an icon saying whether a thread is resolved or not.

RE: Thread resolution suggestion

This was thought of..and was the way it initially was going to work...

then we thought that it would produce too much work for moderators as too many threads would not be closed by the original poster....

As honco asked, has there been problems with threads going resolved when they are not?

RE: Thread resolution suggestion

I have noticed a few threads being marked as resolved when they were not really resolved, because it is easy to forget to uncheck the checkbox. brut has a point and so do you Matt, I don't think there is a foolproof way to make sure that threads get marked resolved properly.

RE: Thread resolution suggestion

Threads are automatically checked to be resolved after the first reply, regardless of the quality of the ansewer. It was just a thought.

RE: Thread resolution suggestion

maybe the original poster or a time limit could set the post to resolved. If no one adds to a post in 30 hours it could flip to resolved if the original poster hasn't already closed it...

In any event an icon that showed "closed" would be an asset. Maybe three icons, green-yellow-red with red only being attainable if the original poster or an admin sets the thread closed or maybe if no one posts for 2-3 days. Otherwise if someone answers and they "believe it's resolved" they could flag it yellow.

One more idea along these lines, make the default radio button "not resolved".

RE: Thread resolution suggestion

I support the idea of time limit. If a thread doesn't get any replies within a week from its last post the thread gets "resolved" status unless all the posts are made by the original poster.

And icons telling if a thread is resolved or not, they'd be great. But instead of red and green light I suggest letters "R" and "U" because I find them more exotic.

RE: Thread resolution suggestion

i'm noticing a lot of threads are replied to, and resolved, but still marked as unresolved.. unless the people replying are intentionally leaving them un-resolved for some reason 0_o

That's exactly why threads should expire after a certain amount of time. Aren't moderators able to mark them as resolved?
