Forums Creation
This isn't exactly a tutorial, but more of a Database Structure example.
I've started using ASP, and while I was at it, I managed to make a fully-working forums page. I've made two, and they're at http://robmusic.somee.com/ (you can register there - once I've made it) and http://ajkd.somee.com/ (you can't do anything there coz you gotta be a member of AJKD) The structure of the Database is roughly as follows: Tables: forums_list -- Lists all the forums in the site forums_list_(number) -- lists all the threads/topics in the specified forum forum_(forum)_(thread) -- contains all the messages. In the, say, forums_list table, the columns are Forum -- what the Forum ID is ForumName -- what the name of the Forum is Description -- the description of the Forum LastPost -- when the last user posted a mesage LastPoster -- who posted the last message LastPostThread -- the Thread ID of the last message In the forums_list_(num), say forums_list_2, the columns are: poster -- who posted the message started -- when the discussion was started subject -- the subject of the thread description -- the description of the thread LastPost -- the last post in that particular thread replies -- how many messages have been posted in that thread And finally, in the actual message thing (say, forum_2_2): poster -- who posted the message posted -- when the post was posted subject -- the subject of the post description -- a description of the post message -- the actual message (you'll need to make the field type Memo to fit in a large message) you could add some of your own features, say in the forums_list_(num) you could add whether you can reply to the message, whether it's been read or not, an image to the thread or message, or if it's a sticky etc. If you know the basics, you can do a lot.
